Memorial For Workers Killed In Olympic Constitution Project



Over 100 building workers in Stratford, east London, downed tools to remember two men who died while working on the construction sites. The event at Westfield, near the Olympic Stadium, aimed to highlight the importance of health and safety on International Workers Memorial Day..Shaun Scurry, 39, of Merseyside, died at the Westfield site in December 2009. Henry Sheridan, 58, of Luton, died in December 2008 while working on the rail extension for the Olympic park in West Ham, east London. London, UK. 28/04/10

Rail Workers Defend Safety Rules



Transport unions from across Europe held a mass rally of hundreds of railway workers in Lille, France, to protest against the EU-driven privatization of the industry.
Union activist began the day by blocking roads, lighting flares and blowing horns outside the European Railway Agency (ERA) headquarters.
Bob Crow general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union delivered a letter to the ERA demanding they give a “clear commitment to rail safety” and assurances that jobs will not be lost “in the interests of competition and profit.”

10,000 in protest to protect the welfare state and public services



Up to 10,000 pensioners, students, carers, health professionals, the unemployed and trade unionists took to the street to warn the main political parties that they should think again before making cuts to the welfare state and public services. London, UK.10/04/10

In bright sunshine, marchers led by the RMT brass band, filled the Embankment and marched up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square.
At the rally, NPC general secretary Dot Gibson said: “Our campaign to protect the welfare state and public services has brought together old and young alike because we recognize that whatever our age, we all need the support of a decent welfare system. Free education, care when we are sick and pensions when we retire are all valued parts of a civilised and compassionate society.”

BA Cabin Crew Strike



UK, London – 27.03.10. BA cancel more than 100 flights as the strike by cabin crews entered its second weekend of stoppages.The crews are striking over working condition and cost cutting. Hundreds of members of the Unite union joined picket lines around Heathrow airport.

PCS Civil Service Strike



UK, London – 08.03.10. Civil servants have begun a 48-hour nationwide strike, leaving court hearings postponed, job centers operating a minimum service and 2,000 driving tests canceled. The Public Service Union claimed that 200,000 workers are taking part in walkout over redundancies but the government says impact has been mild.

Vestas Sit-In



Isle of Wight – 23.07.09. About 25 workers were still inside the Vestas factory near Newport on the Isle of Wight as the sit-in entered its forth day. The worker’s are calling for the Government to take action to preserve green jobs at Vestas Blades, manufacturers of wind turbine blades based on the Isle of Wight.
